Shoe of the week

This weeks shoe of the week comes with a confession. I really, really want to buy these shoes. But here is the problem, when I get stressed, or want to cheer my self up, or am in avoidance mode, I eat or I shop. This has resulted in putting on 5 kg, plus I have no money. So it’s a problem. Sure eating chocolate or buying something online provides instant gratification, but for me it doesn’t last. To be honest I don’t even get that excited when the item arrives in the post, I just add it to my already groaning wardrobe, and hope the rail holds! What to do? I am going to a course on learning to deal with emotions. Emotions are something I’ve avoided in the past, my mantra was always to keep busy, keep doing things so I don’t have to think or deal with anything. I need a healthier way live, so the course is difficult and confronting at times, but I keep plodding along and am slowly getting there. I’m a work in progress!

Anyway back to the shoes! These fabulous shoes are fluevogs, my current obsession! Available in a variety of colours, but my favourite at the moment is the paisley print.

Purses, Purses, Purses

I love novelty purses! I love the element of fun and whimsy they add to an outfit! I’ve found some fabulous new bags of late that I just had to share!

One of my current favourites are the play purses. These are reminiscent of the little coin purses I had as a child, but in a grown up size. Available in a variety of colours, they are super cute:

CYAN_largeI am also equally smitten with the milk carton purse from pin up girl clothing, I love that it is the “best milk ever”! Equally as cute from PUG is the carousel pony bag!

I personally love Charlotte Olympia’s bags, admittedly they are a little out of my price range, but I love to dream a little sometimes! The Pumpkin pouch is so magical, with a little sprinkling of Swarovski crystals, it’s magical!

PUMPKINPOUCH_SUEDEEMBROIDERYCRYSTALS_ORANGEBut my favourite has to be the Hot air balloon from modcloth, this is definitely on my wish-list. If only i hadn’t spent all that money on shoes!

It’s frocktastic friday

I’ve had a little blog break recently. I was feeling a litle uninspired of late, but then when I spotted this dress on the doll deluxe website I knew I had to celebrate it!

This dress has a such a wow factor, it was inspired by the 1940s femme fatales of Hollywood. It just celebrates curves and being a woman, i love it!

Midweekend mindfulness

I came across this fantastic 60 second mindfulness tool this morning when I was feeling particularly stressed. One of my work colleagues has a son with really severe anxiety, so we all met up for a coffee and a chat, so I could share my experiences with him. I found it quiet confronting seeing someone in that hyper-anxiety stage, it reminded me of what it was like to be fearful of feeling that way, whereas nowadays I have pretty much come to accept it as part of my life. So anyway, I tried Pixelthoughts and  It’s really good! Basically you write down what you are anxious or stressed about at the moment, and it takes you through a 60 second meditation watching your concern shrink down until it Is a tiny star in the sky.

I always think that’s it’s useful to have more tools in my mindfulness toolbox, and Pixel thoughts was really effective for me. I liked seeing my stressor shink down into a tiny little star in the universe!

If you try it out I’d be keen to know what you think!

Have a good weekend

It’s frocktastic friday

It’s a wet rainy autumn day here in Auckland so I needed a bright cheery dress today to cheer things up. I love the Monique dress from Heart of haute, its just so pretty! It transports me to spring days, warmer weather and summer just around the corner!

Also available in blue, plus skirts are available in both colours. It’s taking all my willpower not to order it today!

How long should it take to loose the baby weight?

During the week I happened across a post on a mothers fitness group I belong to on facebook. The post was from a new mum who had an 11 week old baby. This mum was asking for fitness and dieting advice to help loose the remaining baby weight. I found this post very upsetting. Here was a brand new mum with an 11 week old baby, and already she was feeling the pressure to return to her pre-pregnancy weight. When my daughter was born, I found at 11weeks I was just emerging from the sleep deprived zombie new mum haze. I was proud of my body that had carried my baby, and was enjoying the closeness of breastfeeding. It didn’t even cross my mind to go on a diet or to start training. It really saddens me to think that new mums feel pressure to loose weight so quickly after giving birth. Is it society that puts this pressure on women? Is it other women, or are we influenced by celebrities in the media being celebrated fo their return to their pre-birth shape. My advice to this new mum was to enjoy her baby, it was only early days and enjoy these precious moments, they grow so fast. What are your experiences, did you feel external pressure to loose weight quickly, or were you putting pressure on yourself? Please share your thoughts

It’s frocktastic friday!

Now I love a good shirt dress, they are my go to dress for my weekday wardrobe. They are so flattering and pretty and easy to wear and accessorize. This dress from House of Dots has a fabulous toile de jouy pattern that is super cute!

Perfect paired with the Ida shoe from B.a.i.t footwear and the From the deep Erstwilder brooch from Vintage pip. The brooch adds an element of carnage amongst all the classical design of the toile de jouy (I like carnage)
